Posadas plans to strengthen the Green Infrastructure Network as part of its climate agenda

Growing concern about the impacts of climate change and the need to take concrete measures to address these challenges was what motivated Posadas to begin its climate planning. Valeria Mariel Jacquemin, Director of Environmental Policy and Climate Change, reviews in this interview some of the strategies and actions of the missionary municipality to incorporate this perspective in local management.

Why did you decide to carry out your climate planning with the RAMCC?

Because of the importance of working in collaboration with other entities and sharing experiences and resources to develop more effective strategies and amplify our impact. Posadas is a city with a long exercise of local strategic planning, so the Local Climate Action Plan becomes a tool that contributes and feeds back on current urban plans.

We know that you are in the process of updating your Greenhouse Gas Inventory, why do you think this is important?

We believe it is essential because it provides us with an up-to-date understanding of our emissions and allows us to monitor our progress towards reducing these emissions, which is essential to meeting our climate commitments.

A notable aspect of the inventory process is the commitment and active participation of key local actors in the planning and execution of climate actions.

What actions are they promoting?

Our territory has particularities that allow us to carry out certain actions, such as the presence of extensive green areas that can be used for reforestation and urban heat mitigation projects, and the availability of water resources that provide us with opportunities to implement adaptation measures to climate change. Posadas plans to strengthen its Green Infrastructure Network with this approach, with a view to enhancing its contributions to climate action in urban life.

Are you thinking about new mitigation and adaptation measures to climate change?

We are considering various mitigation measures, such as the promotion of sustainable mobility, the expansion of waste recovery policies from different fractions, urban trees, among others. Regarding adaptation, we are evaluating actions such as strengthening resilient infrastructure and integrated climate risk management.

In addition, we were already carrying out initiatives such as recycling programs, promoting the use of bicycle paths, cycle paths and the development of urban green areas. These initiatives serve as a basis for our future actions within the framework of climate planning.

What objectives do you have for the future?

Continue reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, increase the resilience of our community in the face of climate change, promote citizen participation in the climate agenda and consolidate alliances with other entities to promote joint actions.
